CBS RADIO NET ALERT NEWS REPORT, FEB. 10, 1984
Here is another example of the CBS Radio Net Alert Report. CBS Radio News broke into affiliates’ regular broadcast schedule, with reporter Reid Collins (1929-2018) reporting on the death a day earlier of Soviet leader Yuri Andropov (1914-1984). Mark Phillips reports from Moscow.
The death of Andropov set in motion a rotating door of Soviet leaders in the second half of the 1980s, which ended with the ascension of Mikhail Gorbachev, who oversaw the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.
