Stefan Bjes: Police officers, in general, claim themselves that we are The Thin Blue Line. We are that Blue Line that keeps order and chaos separated.
Philip Norton: Work of a police officer, it can be taught. It's the attitude you need to have in a department. It's the attitude of the officer who wants to help people. That's what draws everyone into law enforcement. Back in October of 2004, there was an explosion in a neighboring town, and fire was not able to talk to law enforcement. Law enforcement was not able to talk to fire. Few years later in Wheaton, there was a takeover bank robbery. Glen Ellyn and a number of surrounding communities responded with a great show of force around the bank. Communication was hampered by the fact that many of these communities were on different channels. So, those two incidences really jump to mind when I talk about integration and consolidation because of the importance of the communication.
Dave Anderson: Never before, in my opinion, has The Thin Blue Line been as important as it is now. Policing, you're literally a part of the community, and if you're not, that's when, in my opinion, the problems happen, when we get separated. We're very fortunate to have that community relationship.
Stefan Bjes: We don't get called when people have a good day. Usually, we get phone calls from people when it's at their worst. So, if we're able to make that little bit of difference and bring some peace of mind or assist somebody in some way to make a difference, to make their lives a little bit easier that day, that's why I do it.
