I took a stock Ford Festiva shift lever and extended it about a half an inch below the ball on the lever thus creating a "short" shifter.
While I was under the car, I also replaced all of the shifter bushings. Shifting is much shorter and firmer now.
** Please excuse the FILTHY car. Haven't had a chance to clean out the vents and whomever owned it before me must have had it parked under a pine tree with needles and leaves filling the air intakes.**
