New Religion is a band that originated in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1980s.
Always at the front was the lead vocalist, Drew Harrison. Guitarist, Mark Blasquez, with his brother Andy Blasquez on Bass, rounded out the core of the group. Although the band typically recorded with digital drum programming, they enjoyed working with several Bay Area drummers for live performances.
New Religion was inspired by artists ranging from U2, the Smiths, Depeche Mode, and Peter Gabriel to lesser-known but equally influential artists such as Peter Murphy, Gene Loves Jezebel, the Cocteau Twins, and Siouxsie and the Banshees.
Their music attracted a loyal and wildly enthusiastic Northern California crowd. Although songs such as "You Don't See" and "Here In My Heart" enjoyed radio airplay on a number of Bay Area stations, much of their best work never reached the airwaves, enjoyed only through their live performances.
