Russian troops attacked the village of Novoekonomichne in Donetsk Oblast on July 8, heavily damaging a large Orthodox Church.
Kyiv Independent reporters Francis Farrell and Olena Zashko visited the church, which belonged to the Russian-controlled Moscow Patriarchate of the so-called Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
As a result of the attack, three people were injured and 20 buildings were damaged, Governor Vadym Filashkin reported on the morning of July 9.
Settlements in Donetsk Oblast suffer from daily Russian strikes due to their proximity to the front line. Heavy fighting continues in Donetsk Oblast as Russia seeks to occupy the entire region.
