PLEASE NOTE: NO MONEY WAS MADE, OR WILL BE MADE, FROM THIS RECORDING AND SO WE'RE NOT INFRINGING COPYRIGHT BY BEING A 'TRIBUTE ACT' THAT CEASED IN 2006.
Hello everyone, I'm uploading this to honour Gary Howe, my soul-partner and amazing drummer who passed away March 2022. Here he played drums in our tribute band Pretenders Too. I hope you'll enjoy and appreciate Gary's playing which was always immaculate and inspired. He was always a real professional as well as a creative force. We were never pleased with this Four Track Demo - the mixing wasn't good and it made our energetic, powerful band sound flat and pedestrian - but it does showcase what fabulous musicians these chaps were. Gary Howe on drums, Paul Swift on guitar, Kelvin Malik on bass and the lovely Richard Churchyard (of Frome's 'Raves from the Grave' record shop) on keyboards (and of course Poppy - as Chrissie Kynde - singing somewhere low in the mix! Please note that Chrissie Kynde always wore vegan faux 'pleather' not animal skin - always with love and respect for our creature-kin!)
TRACKS: Back on the Chain Gang, Kid, Talk of the Town, Precious.
Sorry the slideshow isn't perfect, no matter what I do to adjust my screen there is interference but I think that makes some of the photos look quite psychedelic! These were our promotional shots and the Demo was made for us to get gigs but sadly we weren't able to continue as I became to ill to front a band. However, I'm so grateful for this time with these fabulous musicians and to be singing alongside Gary. To quote 'Back on the Chain Gang' lyrics: " I found a picture of you, oh...Those were the happiest days of my life, Like a break in the battle was your part, oh... In the wretched life of a lonely heart". How true. With love to you all and thanks for watching/listening. Please join me again soon when a broken Poppy will attempt to bring you something of worth.
