Samsung Publishing shares soared after Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted about the song 'Baby Shark' which went viral on YouTube on Tuesday (1/6) night. Samsung Publishing is the second largest shareholder of SmartStudy, the children's song producer with 18 percent ownership.
Citing CNN Business, Samsung Publishing's shares in South Korea rose 10 percent to 49,000 won (US$44). Even though it had fallen, at the close of trading Tuesday (1/6), the stock still rose 6 percent and became the highest price in the last month.
"Baby Shark destroys all! More views than humans," Musk wrote, in response to a video shared by South Park's official account.
Baby Shark is a song about a family of sharks and has been viewed more than eight billion times on YouTube. Recorded by Korean-American singer Hope Segoine, the song was first uploaded to the platform in 2016, and has since become one of the most recognizable songs in the world, even breaking the Billboard Top 100 in 2019. Musk's tweet about the song also illustrates the magnitude of Musk's influence on assets ranging from bitcoin, dogecoin to stocks.
As is known, the cryptocurrency also jumped more than 100 percent after Musk said 'Doge barking at the moon' in a tweet. In a tweet last May, Musk also made the value of Dogecoin soar after sharing a parody of the 'Jaws' movie poster. He parodies the tangled US dollar as a hapless swimmer who is about to be attacked by the infamous shark, a giant dog. DOGE appears in big red letters at the top, with the text 'You'll never use dollars again'.
