We are used to certain words meaning the same thing to everyone. Unfortunately, we make a lot of assumptions when others are describing something, especially if they are selling something. Gemstones and jewelry are particularly vulnerable to bad assumptions when it comes to the description of what they really are.
When buying gemstones, one must be very careful about how the stones they are buying are being described(or not described). Many words we take for granted often mean something different than how we use them on a regular basis. Some of this is our own ignorance and some is just simply marketing and selling.
The word disclosure is talked about a lot in the jewelry industry and related circles. The person selling is often guilty of deliberately misleading others. If we knew the right questions, we could protect ourselves from buying something different than we were hoping or perhaps overpaying thinking we are getting something better or more rare.
We are specifically looking at the three words "Natural","Genuine", and "untreated." They are close...but not really.
