I want to cross the Hudson River by paddling my canoe. I launch my boat from The Palisades, New Jersey side, and paddle across the very wide Hudson River, braving the strong current, wind and boat traffic. Plus, I include a few facts for those who may want to try this paddling adventure, as well.
Will I survive the challenge?
I feel it is a personal achievement for me to cross the Hudson River. Not very daring, but not done by many because of the rather limited access to the heavily industrialized river system. Plus, it is not a calm tranquil river, nor is it crystal clean like, say, the Delaware River. Still, the area is a natural wonder to see cliffs rise so high above the water. The Hudson is wide enough and deep enough for giant tankers and cruise ships to use.
Although I was trolling while paddling, only a few small fish showed up on my fish finder. So unfortunately, fish had migrated south already. It is winter after all.
I happen to choose a day when a warm front entered the NYC area, just before Christmas. I was having cabin fever and had to get out. When you have the chance to get out there and enjoy the great outdoors, go for it.
