Harry Potter has been a part of our lives for so long that it feels like we know the whole story inside and out. But even after all these years, so much about the series can still surprise us! Or, should we say, so much that never actually made it into the series. Today we’re taking a look at all of the amazing details, characters, and story lines that JK Rowling actually cut out of the Harry Potter books before they ever made it to print. We were completely surprised to find out that Rowling originally planned to give Hermione Granger a younger sister, who would have also had magical abilities and appeared at Hogwarts a few years after her sister. We wonder if Emma Watson ever knew she was supposed to have a sibling! Or how about the fact that Rowling almost didn’t let Ron Weasley live until the end of the books, and Rupert Grint might actually have wanted his character to meet that fate!? There are so many crazy cut characters, like Mopsy, a dog-obsessed witch who was supposed to take in Sirius Black before The Prisoner of Azkaban, or Professor Trocar the Vampire who never made it onto the page. Draco Malfoy’s original name might be one of the weirdest things we’ve ever heard, and we’re a little sad that we never got to meet his almost-friend Theordore Nott. Dean Thomas was originally supposed to get a lot more backstory, Hermione’s dad almost had a very surprising connection to Harry himself, and there was even a whole other Weasley that we will never know!
