Stamford High School Principal Donna Valentine and Assistant Principal Roth Nordin pleaded not guilty in court Wednesday, for allegedly failing to report what they knew about a sexual relationship involving a teacher and student.
Stamford Police say several people made the two administrators aware as early as December 2013, that English teacher Danielle Watkins appeared to be involved with an 18-year-old student. The school conducted its own investigation without reporting the allegations to the police or Department of Children and Families. Police began to investigate in June, and Watkins was arrested and charged in July for her alleged sexual relationship with the student and for providing him and another student with marijuana. Valentine and Nordin are facing a misdemeanor charge for their failure to report.
"We need to let this criminal process run its course," Valentine's attorney Mark Sherman said outside the courthouse. "This was not a cover up by any means. We're going to take some time with the police reports, examine the witness statements, and try to piece together this alleged timeline. Remember these are only accusations."
Nordin's attorney declined to comment. Valentine and Nordin are due back in court October 21.
