Brazilian Quilombos were communities formed by runaway slaves between the 17th and 19th centuries. Today, Brazilian law grants these population rights over the lands they occupy. But getting this recognition can be a long and difficult process.
Paulo Cabral visited several Quilombos around Brazil to learn about their past and get a sense of their future.
