The stanzas quote the short poem “Völuspá hin skamma” (“Short Völuspá”) as reported in “Gylfaginning” in the Prose Edda. Refrains list out all the names of the runes present in Elder Futhark alphabet (which is also the alphabet I used for my transcription). Runes had a sacred use in Nordic religion: Norse sorcerers, seeresses and warlocks worked their magic with the runes and Odin himself hung to the ash Yggdrasil for nine nights to learn the secrets of the runes and gain the right to be runemaster. To every rune is associated a meaning, usually a word starting by the same letter, to which their magical power was linked. In my translation I opted for a translation of the runes’ names, instead of simply copying them, but keep in mind that most of these names can have more than one translation, and in most cases said translation is not certain [the word “rune” itself means “secret”, after all].

“Valföðr” (“father of the slain”) is one of Odin’s many epithets.
Vitkar were magicians in Norse societies, especially dedicated to runic magic.
Any suggestion and/or observation is warmly welcome.
The lyrics are pronounced by singer Justine Galmiche as modern Icelandic, instead of using Old Norse pronunciation: e.g. she sings “á” as the Icelandic diphthong /au/ instead of the Old Norse /a:/ or the double “l” as /tl/.
