Fourth-generation Monterey commercial fisherman and big wave surfer Peter Davi became one of the first Californians to be welcomed in the lineup at the Banzai Pipeline off North Shore Oahu. He tragically lost his life while surfing 70-foot waves at Pescadero Point (aka Ghost Tree) near Pebble Beach in in 2007.
The 2008 surf film Monterey Purple was dedicated to his memory. Here is an interview and surf clips of Davi included in the film.
