Pictures Jeff took of Old Baldy in 1995. The original Old Baldy Lighthouse was built between 1789 and 1794. It was torn down in 1813 and another one was built in 1817. The bricks and lantern from original lighthouse was recycled for use by the new lighthouse. In 1852 the lighthouse started using the newest technology of that day which was Fresnel Lenses. Interesting facts about the Old Baldy Lighthouse is that the exterior had just a rough plaster originally, then in 1822 it was painted black but then by 1880 it had been painted white. Old Baldy was decommissioned in 1935 and left to the elements that has turned the color of the lighthouse into "mottled tones." Old Baldy was taken over by The Old Baldy Foundation in 1990 who repaired the damages the lighthouse had sustained. Today visitors can climb the 108 stairs to the top of Old Baldy.
