Born in 1887 in Little Rock, Arkansas, Florence Beatrice Price was the first African American woman to gain national recognition as a composer. A composer, pianist, organist and music teacher, Price made history when she became the first black female to have work performed by a major orchestra. The Chicago Symphony played the world premiere of her Symphony in E minor in a historic concert at the 1933 World’s Fair. Price composed over 300 works before her death in 1953.
"Adoration" was originally written for the organ and published in 1951. Here, the Davisson Guitar Duo performs an arrangement for two guitars written for them by Mark Houghton.
The Davisson Duo is comprised of classical guitarists Elle (age 13) and Jack (age 15). Jack and Elle study at the California Conservatory of Music and play guitars by American Luthier Glenn Canin. There's more solo and duo guitar music by the Davisson siblings here -
