When Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated in 1968, the civil rights leader had come to Memphis at the urging of United Methodist pastor the Rev. James M. Lawson. At age 88, Lawson looks back at what drove him to later reach out to the man accused of killing his close friend. “Martin King would have gone to visit him. I knew this.”
