Right-sided Germany captain Philipp Lahm will switch to the left for his side's Group B match against Portugal on Saturday.
PHILIPP LAHM, Germany: "First it was decided that I am going to play on the left side. I just had a conversation with the national coach and he sees me on the left wing. It is always the coach's decision where I play. You must not make that conditional to individual players. We have to watch ourselves and our game. I have showed in other tournaments - I think in Euro 2008 - that I can play on one wing as good as the other, even in one single game, so it is no problem for me and I will always do the best for the team."
Loew is still unsure of who will take's Lahm's usual spot at right-back, with Jerome Boateng and youngster Lars Bender both bidding for a place in the starting line up.
Loew said: "Last week I decided that Philipp Lahm will play on the left wing. I told him last week that he will play on the left wing. In previous games for the national team he played on the left wing. At Bayern Munich he changed to the right wing two or three months ago but I am sure that this step will improve our game. That is the reason I told him why he will play on the left wing. Jerome Boateng is the first option on the right wing but Lars Bender can play this position very well too. I saw that during the training sessions.
His decision comes after Boateng's focus was questioned following a photo of him with a glamour model shortly before the German squad flew to Poland on Monday.
