The SleepTight mouthpiece website says that it is actually designed to 'reduce' snoring although it gets confusing because when you click on the web page that explains how it works there is a headline that says, "Designed to reduce snoring." But then right underneath that headline is a sentence that says, "SleepTight Mouthpiece was designed to stop snoring." So, you can imagine my confusion, but I figured I would give SleepTight the benefit of the doubt because maybe it reduces snoring for some and completely stops it for others. Most of the anti-snoring devices I've tried usually have a trial period when you can return the product anyways for a refund, so I wasn't worried. I'm going to test these products anyways.
SleepTight also claims to treat mild to moderate sleep apnea. A lot of times snoring can be a sign of sleep apnea when it is followed by silent pauses in breathing and gasping/choking sounds. A common symptom of sleep apnea can also be loud or frequent snoring. Sleep apnea/snoring can also cause daytime fatigue and drowsiness. I was getting excited by the claims of SleepTight as I anxiously read through their website to get an idea of what they believed or claimed SleepTight could accomplish.
As I read on SleepTight began to educate on snoring saying, "Snoring can cause serious relationship problems
Snoring can cause strain on relationships. Couples who experience snoring often end up sleeping in separate beds, this can have a detrimental effect on a relationship. It has been documented that snoring is the third leading cause of divorce among American couples. This is often attributed to the fact that as couples start sleeping in separate beds, they lose intimacy in their relationship."
I began to get more excited because a relationship strain is what caused me to use and start testing anti-snoring products in the first place
As I read on SleepTight also claimed, "Better sleep leads to a higher quality of life. Snoring impacts the quality of your sleep. When you can't breathe well at night due to snoring, the quality of your sleep is reduced. By getting the rest your body needs, you can feel more refreshed. This can have a positive impact on all aspects of life."
You can imagine my excitement as SleepTight's claims began to form images in my mind of a better night’s sleep with no snoring and a higher quality of life. But as I read on, I became a little skeptical because SleepTight's next claim was, "Eliminate snoring by breathing better. SleepTight Mouthpiece holds your lower jaw forward. Most people who snore do so because their airway collapses due to their muscles relaxing. The vibration which causes snoring can be eliminated by using SleepTight Mouthpiece. When you wear the mouthpiece, your jaw stays further forward and your airway remains open. This prevents snoring while you sleep." I was skeptical because these mouthpieces usually may reduce snoring but fail to eliminate it.
I became skeptical because SleepTight again claimed to eliminate snoring rather than to just reduce it. I was also skeptical because, from my own personal experience, all anti-snoring mouthpieces work by moving your lower jaw forward to keep your airway open. The main problem that I've found with anti-snoring mouthpieces like SleepTight is that they are mainly solid pieces with no hinge. Some of them you can slide forward or backward to adjust how much your lower jaw moves forward which in turn adjusts how much your airway is open. I'll talk more about this later. First, let me say I was getting pretty hyped up as I continued to read more on the SeepTight website.
I switched over to the SleepTight 'About' page and continued reading about how the SleepTight mouthpiece was designed by a dentist. This is what the SleepTight website claims:
"The SleepTight Mouthpiece was developed by US dentist Dr. Mike Williams, a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and a UK mouthguard research and developer.
Dr. Williams personally suffered from a snoring problem and endured multiple surgeries to improve his snoring, all to no avail. He began looking for snoring surgery alternatives over 10 years ago.
For several years the two collaborated frequently on snoring and OSA solutions. They decided to design and develop a mouthpiece that could help people around the globe with breathing at night. After evaluating thousands of customers' feedback from around the world, SleepTight Mouthpiece was born."
