The Office of Tenebrae (Morning Prayer on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday) traditionally features the singing of passages from the Lamentations of Jeremiah, a poetic lament composed upon the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in the 6th century BC. In Tenebrae, this lament is applied to the Passion and Death of Christ, who referred to his own body as the Temple that would be destroyed and raised up.
Here the first three verses of Lamentations 1 are sung according to the melody used by Dominican friars, and numbered by Hebrew letters: aleph, beth, ghimel. They are sung by Br Michael Donohue OP.
