As the globe shifts away from fossil fuels and toward emissions-free electricity, batteries are becoming an increasingly important storage mechanism to help with the transition. The next gold rush has been dubbed the race for improved electric car batteries. Many new technologies are on the way that will make owning and operating a zero-emission vehicle easier. Battery packs might soon give over 400 miles of range between charges that just take a few seconds to charge, and could even provide power to the vehicle over the air, putting an end to "range anxiety" and "long charging times." The battery revolution is about to start. EV manufacturers understand that in order for an EV to be in every garage, Many require greater range, faster charging as well as long lasting batteries. They are well aware of the present lithium-ion batteries' limitations in powering today's electric vehicles. While computer CPUs and operating systems are becoming better at conserving energy, battery packs have always been the weakest link... till now.

Thank You for watching this video; Scientists JUST ANNOUNCED A NEW Battery Technology That Could Last For 400 Years!
Since the early 2000s, electric vehicle batteries have gone a long way. If the prospect of replacing a costly battery has kept you from buying an electric vehicle, you can now take it easy. The chances are that you won't need to replace your electric vehicle's battery until you're ready to upgrade to a new model. What if we also told you that there is a battery that can last for 400 years?
Rechargeable smartwatches, smartphones, tablets, and laptops all have one thing in common: battery life. It almost feels as though they're only made to last three years, just around the time the latest must-have technology is introduced. Many people associate electric vehicle batteries with car batteries and assume they have the same limited lifespan, which is far from the case.
Fortunately, automakers aren't producing electric automobiles in the same way they do smartphones. Modern electric car batteries are built to last, with some EV batteries promising a range of up to ten years or more.
Accidents aren't generally a good thing in the lab, but an unexpected result has led researchers to a method that will help batteries last for 400 years; longer than the best-performing batteries on the market today. While the new battery would still require charging, the main difference is that it would keep working efficiently for 200,000 charge cycles, which is roughly a lifetime of use for products like phones, laptops, cars, and even rockets. And it's a lot longer than the current lithium battery's lifespan.
Mya Le Thai, a Doctoral student at the University of California, Irvine, made this breakthrough. She discovered something that could allow her to make a 400-year-long rechargeable battery while fiddling in the lab. What exactly does this imply? It means you'll be able to use computers with longer battery life and smartphones that don't require charging every 5 hours. It also means that there will be less lithium-ion batteries in landfills.
A group of UCI researchers had been doing tests using nanowires in the hopes of employing them in batteries. However, after a few charging cycles, the researchers discovered that the fragile and thin wires frequently break down and crack. You might be wondering what a charge cycle is. It occurs when a battery is entirely depleted and then fully charged.
Reginald Penner, chair of the university's chemistry department stated that She started cycling these gel capacitors, and that's when they got surprised,'' This thing had been cycling 10,000 cycles and was still going. This continued for a month, even after cycling over 30,000 cycles.
Because the average laptop battery only lasts 300 to 500 charge cycles, this revelation is incredible. In three months, the nanobattery developed at UCI survived 200,000 cycles. According to Penner; this increases the life of a typical laptop battery by about 400 years.
