The Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers’ Association is calling on the Government to allow non-essential manufacturers to resume business.
In a release on Thursday, the TTMA said there have been no known cases of COVID-19 spread in a factory setting to date, and that operations of essential manufacturers have provided a blue print of safety protocols.
The TTMA has 530 member companies and 273 have been designated as essential.
TTMA President, Franka Costelloe, says there is no solid rationale for sustaining the closure, or for denying her remaining members the opportunity to go back to work and to put their people back into employment, especially since this country is only second behind Vietnam as being ready to roll back lockdown measures.
It is estimated that some 52,000 people work in the manufacturing sector.
