Tremella fuciformis, or Snow Fungus, found on Big Island, Hawaii in May 2019.
This wild foraged Hawaiian mushroom also goes by the names: snow fungus, snow ear, silver ear fungus, and white jelly mushroom. In Hawaiian it is Pepeiao, in Japanese it is Shirokikurage, in Korean it is Eunibeoseot. We found this mushroom on the dead branches of a Loquat tree.
It is hailed for its culinary, medicinal, and cosmetic uses. It can be used in soups, stir-frys, and more. It is said to have anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor properties and is believed to be an immune stimulant. In cosmetics, its gelatinous structure and high polysaccharides help with skin hydration.
