Recorded at On Aging 2021, the annual conference of the American Society on Aging, on April 6, 2021.
One of history’s greatest achievements—skyrocketing longevity and the resulting “age wave”—ironically could cause some of civilization’s most serious challenges. It could create an economic misalignment in every aspect of society; global pandemics of degenerative diseases, including hundreds of millions with dementia; expanding systemic racial and ethnic inequities; and a gerontocracy that could spark political age wars.
During this special General Session, Fernando Torres-Gil, Kathy Greenlee, Ai-Jen Poo and Ken Dychtwald will share their unique perspectives about the social, political and healthcare course-corrections needed to avert these potentially grave problems and promote hopeful solutions, including better matching health span to life span for everyone; safeguarding financial security for all generations; eliminating ageism in the media and the marketplace; and ushering in a spectrum of new roles and purpose for modern elders.
