African savannah elephants respond to individual names, one of the few wild animal species known to do so, according to a recent study.
The names are in the form of low rumbles that can be heard over long distances across the savannah.
Scientists believe that animals with complex social structures and family groups that separate and come back together again may be more likely to use individual names.
It’s extremely rare for wild animals to call each other by unique names.
