Quantum tunneling is a phenomenon where particles may "tunnel through" a barrier which they have insufficient kinetic energy to overcome according to classical mechanics.
In the quantum world, things behave quite a lot differently. A particle in the quantum world actually can pass through that valley maybe without even rolling over it. Here, we have an electron in place of the real-life wall and a potential barrier in place of the valley.
In general terms, Tunneling is a quantum mechanical phenomenon when a particle is able to penetrate through a potential energy barrier that is higher in energy than the particle’s kinetic energy.
