The cookiecutter shark (Isistius brasiliensis), also called the cigar shark, is a species of small shark very rarely seen alive in the wild. They get the name from the way they feed. They swim up to larger animals and take a perfectly circular dollop of flesh out of them. This footage was taken by Joshua Lambus on a Blackwater Night Dive in Kailua Kona, Hawaii. This is some of the only footage ever taken of this elusive deepwater shark. Contact Joshua at info@themakaproject for licensing questions
