On Saturday, Saudi Arabia’s Defense Ministry has said three Saudi border guards were killed and two were injured when Houthi fighters fired a mortar round at their post a day earlier, in Najran province.
Saudi forced responded with rifle fire.
The attack brings to six the number of Saudi forces killed since the beginning of the coalition air campaign against Houthi fighters in Yemen, which started over two weeks ago.
Three other border guards were killed in early April when their post was attacked by Houthi fighters. In Saturday’s statement, the Defense Ministry also said 500 Houthi fighters had been killed along Saudi Arabia’s border with Yemen since last month.
Saudi Arabia is leading a military coalition air campaign in support of forces loyal to Yemen’s internationally recognized president, Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
