Hello everyone. Here's my 5th installment of drum mic placement tips series featuring the Heil drum mic kit. In this video I discuss 2 great ALL PURPOSE hi hat mic placement tips that I learned from legendary audio engineer Danny Leake with whom I worked for many years on tour with Stevie Wonder. One for super clean/crisp Hi Hat sound, and one for a Hi Hat sound with a little more beef. Danny always had a large amount of microphones to contend with onstage. While piano, and vocal sound topped the list of importance, Danny always said a good clean drum sound is vital for leaving room for everything else in the mix. Considering we had 2 percussionists, a drummer, 2 guitarist, 3 keyboardists, a bassist, at least 2 horn players, and 4 BGV's with very hot mics his HH mic placement technique was quite sensible. This vid is also a great example of how awesome the Heil Drum Mic Kit is for recording, AND how darn well the Heil PR20 performs as a Hi Hat mic.
