The late and exceptional Iona Brown plays Mozart's Violin Concerto in G major K.216 in this somewhat historic Decca recording which is now considered a collectible commodity, if you can get your hands on it. Iona Brown was a wonderful violinist who made a considerable impact on the music world, In 1964, she joined the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. She worked her way up through the ranks to become concertmistress and solo violinist/ director in 1974 with Sir Neville Marriner. She also did many solo performances and recordings as soloist as well as conducting the Academy and was at her prime of success from the early 1970's up till the late 1990's.
In 1981, she was appointed artistic director of the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra. The Norwegian royal family later awarded her the accolade Knight of First Class Order of Merit for her success with the NCO. She directed the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra from 1987 to 1992, and returned as its principal conductor from 1995 to 1997. From 1985 to 1989, she was guest director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. She died of cancer in 2004 at age 63 in Salisbury.
