Jermaine Johnson II fortune favors the bold! The Jets managed a coup.
After making not one, but two Top 10 selections in the 2022 NFL Draft we thought we wouldn't hear from the New York Jets again during opening night of the draft. However, the NY Jets made a shrewd move trading up, back into the bottom of the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft to stop the Day 1 slide of former UGA/FSU edge rusher Jermaine Johnson II. Having decided to bet on himself, Jermaine Johnson transferred from a loaded Georgia Bulldogs team to play his senior year for the Florida State Seminoles. Johnson was effective in limited snaps during his tenure in Athens but he sought more consistent playing time and he made the most of his opportunity in Tallahassee. Jermaine Johnson, is a decorated pass rusher who should slot in opposite Carl Lawson on a talented Jets defensive line. His improved secondary and tertiary pass rush moves complement his initial burst off the line of scrimmage and speed-to-power conversion. Johnson is also a competitive, stout edge setter in the run game. Couch Potato General Manger was surprised that Johnson lasted until the 26th overall selection considering his performance on tape and how he punctuated the pre-draft process with a pair of Senior Bowl practices that ultimately cemented his Day 1 draft position. As a result, the Jets got tremendous value acquiring Johnson in the bottom part of the first round. CPGM Drew is higher than most on the talented pass rusher. In this video he details why he thinks Jermaine Johnson could be as productive as any of the pass rushers in a deep draft class. New York Jets NFL News.
