When we think of 9/11 most people think of September 11,2001.But for many Chileans there is another 9/11.September 11,1973.On the morning of Tuesday, September 11th 1973, two jets launched a deadly attack on the Presidential Palace of La Moneda in the heart of Santiago, Chile. The result was fire, the suicide of President Salvador Allende and ultimately the death or disappearance of over three thousand people.According to the Chilean government, the number of executions and forced disappearances was 3,095. "Chile: The Other 9/11" pieces together the dramatic hour-by-hour events of the coup that brought General Augusto Pinochet to power and marked a turning point in the Cold War.Pinochet ruled Chile for 17 years.He died under house arrest on December 10,2006 aged 91.
