National icons include the LNER A4 pacific engine 'Mallard', Stephenson's Rocket, the Deltic prototype, and the Eurostar mock-up.
Lesser known artifacts include the UK's first preserved 'modern' steam engine from the Southern Railway, Gladstone - painted in London Brighton and South Coast Railway livery. The 'Coppernob' from the Furness Railway. And Midland Railway/London, Midland and Scottish Railway 1000.
The museum's 0 gauge model railway also makes an appearance.
