Russia has evacuated around 2,000 people from their homes in the city of Orska, a day after rising waters in the Ural River flooded riverside villages. Video shows emergency services attempting to help residents into lifeboats after thousands of homes were flooded in the area when a dam burst on Friday April 5. More footage shows houses almost fully submerged, and vast swathes of land completely covered with water. Desperate locals attempted to navigate the flooded waters using inflatable boats, as trucks tried to travel across. The regional government said the people had been evacuated from the city of 230,000 near Russia's border with Kazakhstan. Agencies cited the local prosecutor's office as saying the dam had been breached due to poor maintenance. A string of Russian Siberian and Urals mountain provinces and neighbouring parts of Kazakhstan have been inundated by floodwaters in recent days. Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev as indicated that the flooding is the largest natural disaster to impact Kazakhstan in the last 80 years. #russia #ukraine #war
