Dr. Robert Gabbay, Chief Scientific and Medical Officer of the American Diabetes Association® (ADA), and Dr. Kamlesh Khunti, a researcher from University of Leicester, U.K., discuss the ADA’s plan to overcome therapeutic inertia in diabetes. Learn practical strategies you can use now to overcome therapeutic inertia in your clinical practice.
This video is part of ADA’s “Practice Pearls for Clinicians” video series sponsored by the Overcoming Therapeutic Inertia (OTI) initiative.
About the OTI Initiative:
Therapeutic inertia is defined as a delay to initiate or intensify therapy when appropriate to do so. It has been identified as a significant contributor to poor diabetes outcomes globally.
Through the OTI initiative, the ADA is ushering in a paradigm shift in the care of type 2 diabetes, advancing the latest thought-leadership, resources, and tools in overcoming therapeutic inertia for primary care. We are working to help physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, dietitians, and diabetes educators more effectively partner with their patients with diabetes to help them live longer, healthier lives.
Through this initiative, the ADA is engaged in research, education, and collaborative barrier-busting activities aimed at understanding and addressing all the forces and factors that contribute to delay in implementing the most effective care for each person with diabetes.
