Take a look at an object. Now, try to view only the left half of it. You'll find no matter how hard you try, you will always be conscious of both halves. This is the result of many areas of the brain all contributing to produce one picture of the world around you. Neuroscientist Giulio Tononi banters with moderator Alan Alda about these "specialists" that all together make up the conscious experience.
