Klaus Barbie was known as the "Butcher of Lyon" because of the atrocities he committed during World War II as a Gestapo officer. He tortured prisoners, shot suspected resistance fighters, and sent both adults and children to concentration camps. After the war, he escaped to South America with the help of the Americans and may have never been brought to justice had it not been for a journalist who tracked him down in the 1980s. #shorts
