Saffron is a popular spice that is used for flavouring certain recipes and is well known of its distinct look and colour. To obtain the health benefits of saffron, you can let the spice infuse in your tea, add it to your smoothies or just simply add it to your food recipes. Not a lot of saffron is needed for these health benefits, as half a gram to one gram of the spice is more than enough, especially if you are consuming it regularly. Lets discuss some of the health benefits associated with saffron.
1. First, saffron can help to increase circulation throughout the body. This allows it to increase both blood circulation and your metabolism. This allows it to work as a great energy booster throughout the day. Saffron is also effective in this way since it contains the mineral iron, which also stimulate circulation and supplies oxygen to important organs, improving their functionality and metabolic activity.
2. Saffron can also help to protect the heart, as well as promote its overall health many different ways. This is because saffron is packed with heart healthy potassium. Potassium helps our heart by acting as a vasodilator, which means it puts less pressure and stress on our arteries and blood vessels. This has the added benefit of decreasing blood pressure and preventing atherosclerosis and heart disease.
3. Regular consumption of saffron can also help to boost our overall immunity. This is attributed to the spices’ wonderful nutrient profile, which includes high levels of vitamin C. Since it contains great levels of ascorbic acid, this will stimulate the production of white blood cells by our immune system, which can help to fight off unwanted diseases and toxins. It also helps with tissue production, muscle growth, collagen production and can even help repair our blood vessels.
4. Consuming saffron has also been found to help improve our mood by relieving mild anxiety. It may also help to improve mild depression symptoms when consumed regularly. This is attributed to saffron containing many active and effective compounds that may effect the endocrine system ad release beneficial hormones to improve our mood. Some studies have also found that saffron consumption can naturally help mild depression symptoms. 5. Lastly, regular consumption of saffron can help to treat stomach disorders and reduce inflammation in the body. It can help to ease an upset stomach and reduce gas. It also has anti-inflammatory properties which can work to calm the stomach while reducing inflammation. This has the added benefits of relieving certain stomach ailments, such as bloating, constipation and cramps.
