Thousands of protesters stormed the prime minister’s private residence in the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo on Saturday.
Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said in a voice statement Saturday he would be willing to resign after leaving the official residence as a safety precaution ahead of the weekend demonstration.
Protesters have demanded both Wickremesinghe and President Gotabaya Rajapaksa step down in a fury over the country’s worsening economic crisis.
Wickremesinghe said he would resign when all parties have agreed on a new government.
