Are you eating the right kind of snacks? Probably not. Not to worry, Abbey is here to save the day once again with a huge snack haul full of high protein snacks that are not only dietitian approved but also tasty and satisfying.
Abbey recently went to Boston for the Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo to check out some of the most delicious and nutritious snacks on the market. Abbey literally snacked her way through the conference but snagged a bag full of goodies to bring back to show you some of her favorite picks.
The first snack Abbey pulls out of her goodie bag is Plentils by Njoy Life. These are light, crunchy, gluten free chips that are only 100 calories per serving. These are not only good, but could be used for a wide variety of snacking. Her next pull from the bag reveals Pop IQ Air Popped Sorghum Gain, which is a lot like the world renowned Kettle Corn we have all had at some point. Sorghum is a Gluten Free whole grain that can be popped in the same way traditional popcorn is. It is not only high in fiber and protein but also delicious.
The next product Abbey gets out of the goodie bag are several bars from a company called Kind. You have no doubt seen Kind bars at your local grocery store, which are definitely a healthier option than your typical bar. These bars are however flying under the flag of "Pressed by Kind" and they are nothing but veggies and fruit. Each bar weighs in at just over 100 calories and 4 grams of fiber. Her next dig into the bag reveals Hemp Heart Toppers, which is an apple cinnamon hemp seed mix. These are great for topping oatmeal or yogurt with and in 1/4 cup there are 10 grams of protein, 3 grams of fiber, and Omega 3's.
Moving on through the bag Abbey pulls out a handful of Enlightened Roasted Broad Bean packages. These come in a wide variety of flavors, clock in at just 100 calories, and have 7 grams of protein. They are also high in fiber. Next up are the Ellyndale Q-Cups. Everyone knows that Quinoa is a wholesome, protein-packed grain full of nutrition. Ellyndale takes the goodness of naturally gluten-free Organic Quinoa and adds a touch of sea salt to it to create a snack that's hard to believe it came out of a cup. Just add hot water and voila, instant snack. If you're familiar with Abbey than you know that she is obsessed with caramel. Fortunately for her Premier Protein has a caramel flavored shake that also made it's way into her goodie bag. Just one of these shakes has 30 grams of protein in it. It is also extremely low in calories at just 160 per shake and only 5 carbs.
After the shake Abbey pulls out several packages of Sunsweet dried fruit, otherwise known as "Nature's Candy". These have just 100 calories per pack and contain 2 grams protein and 2 grams of fiber. The next snack Abbey showcases are the Mediterra bars, noting that it's refreshing to see a company moving granola bars in a more savory direction. Each bar has 140 calories, 5 grams of fiber and 5 grams of protein. Her next dive into the bag reveals the Biena Chickpea Snacks, which she seems elated about. She actually says she needs more of them in her life. These are crispy, flavorful chickpeas packed with 150 calories, 6 grams of protein, and 7 grams of fiber per serving. You can put these on your salad or even just eat them like a snack.
Her next reach into the bag finds her holding a Munk Pack Oatmeal Fruit Squeeze. For starters, there's a chipmunk on the pack, which in Abbey's book is an automatic win. There is an extremely high level of convenience here, since this in an easy to squeeze pack you can eat it anywhere. That includes eating it on your next camping trip or that long commute to work. Each squeeze pack has 90 calories, 2 grams of protein, and 3 grams of fiber. The next product she pulls out of her goodie bag is the Simply Protein Crunch snack mix. Each bag has just 100 calories, 10 grams of protein, and 8 grams of fiber. Abbey claims it is simply the best snack mix, hands down.
Next up is a product called RX Bars. Abbey had heard of these but never actually gotten to taste them until going to the conference. Most protein bars are overloaded with ingredients as many of you have no doubt noticed. RX Bars on the other hand consist of nothing but egg whites, nuts and dates. The very last item she pulls out of her bag is Crazy Richard's 100% Peanut Powder. Abbey is also pretty obsessed with peanut butter so this was a big win for her as well. Each pack contains 2 grams of fiber, 6 grams of protein, and only 50 calories. This is a great addition to smoothies, yogurt, or even oatmeal.
