A Norwegian-born singer, who recorded for Victor during the 1920s. A talented painter and sculptor, his statue of Leif Ericson was unveiled in Seattle in 1962.
A baritone, professor of music and chorus director, he was also a painter of Norwegian landscapes, scenes of Norway's history, and a sculptor.
Werner was born on December 5, 1893 in Bergen, Norway and received a B.S. from the College of Agriculture in Stend, Norway. He also graduated from the Masters School of Music in New York in 1924. He was a professor at the School of Music at the University of Washington from 1931 to 1965. He directed the Norwegian Male Chorus and the Ladies' Chorus in Seattle, as well as the Chanters of the Nile Temple Shrine. He performed as a baritone both in the United States and Europe and sang with symphony orchestras, in churches and choirs.
