UFC 133: Evans vs. Ortiz 2 was a mixed martial arts event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on August 6, 2011, at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.
At UFC 73, Evans squared off against former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz. The two competitors fought to a draw as all three judges scored the bout 28–28. Ortiz had won two out of three rounds on all scorecards but was docked a point for holding the cage fence to defend against a takedown by Evans. Immediately after the fight, Ortiz asked for a rematch. At a press conference following UFC 73, UFC President Dana White promised a rematch, which for various reasons due to scheduling the fight, didn't occur until 4 years later at UFC 133.
Evans/Jones was expected to take place on August 6, 2011, at UFC 133, but Jones was sidelined with a hand injury. Evans was expected to face rising prospect Phil Davis at the event instead. A title fight between José Aldo and Chad Mendes was delayed, so the UFC promoted Evans vs. Davis to serve as the main event. However, with less than four weeks until the event, Davis pulled out of the bout citing a knee injury. A rematch with Tito Ortiz was scheduled to headline the event.
Evans, coming off a 14-month layoff, was able to dominate Ortiz, who fought just five weeks ago.
Everyone expected that Rashad would have the advantage standing and those expectations proved accurate, as the standing portions of the fight were all Evans.
Tito did have some success in the fight, earning a takedown in the first round and almost catching a guillotine choke in the second.
Apart from that, Rashad was able to completely control the fight. He won the striking battle and also was able to out-wrestle Ortiz, scoring a couple dominant takedowns over the course of the fight.
Tito looked a little bit lost on his back against Evans, managing to survive for a while, but showing generally poor defense and taking a lot of ground and pound from Rashad.
In the second round, it looked like Ortiz was going to get back to his feet after being controlled on the ground for much of the round.
Tito was staying on his knees, strategically, so that Rashad couldn't throw knees or kicks to his head when Evans landed a big knee to the body that completely knocked the wind out of Ortiz.
The knee crumpled the Huntington Beach Bad Boy and from there Evans was able to pound him out.
This was Evan's first fight since defeating Quinton Jackson by unanimous decision 14 months prior. Rashad was supposed to fight Mauricio Rua earlier this year for the light heavyweight championship but was forced to pull out with an injury. Then he was supposed to fight Jon Jones for the belt, but Jones pulled out with an injury.
