A recent debate on our youtube channel with a subscriber led to an opinionated outline of MHI using AREA and not A/R in their turbine housings. At the same time the discussion led to how this was calculated, and after explaining same, there was a disagreement on the facts, so i thought i would share with you all how to calculate the AREA in CM2 of a shape that resembles that of a volute. This drawing is not a specific volute, its just a quick outline of what the process is in order to calculate this. WHERE the calculation is done is the question, and also key to certain manufacturers for their own reasons.
