For those of you that are new to our channel, we arrived on our off grid property in September of 2015, which meant that we didn't have much time to get ready for winter! We barely had time to build a primitive structure for protection, and we had close to zero time to collect firewood.
One of the goals with our off grid property is to not always resort to money. In a perfect world, we would have gathered a bunch of firewood in spring and summer, but guess what, the world isn't perfect so we have to make do with what we have!
While we don't THINK we will have to do much more burning this winter season, there is always that possibility we will get another cold snap, so we thought that we'd be better be safe instead of sorry. It turns out that firelogs was going to be the cheaper route to go compared to buying a cord or two of firewood, but this will likely not be the best option for everyone.
Just wanted to share this little tidbit because while this may not be a viable option for you or for everyone, the important thing we want to share is the value of building relationships in the community to find what you need.
