Turkish riot police used tear gas to break up a rally by thousands in Istanbul, demonstrating over court rulings banning newly-elected pro-Kurdish MPs from taking their seats.
So far six MPs in custody awaiting trial have been refused political immunity in a move analysts fear could reignite tension in the mainly Kurdish south east.
The Kurdish bloc, which won 36 seats in the June 12 vote now says it will boycott parliament which opens this week.
But it could be Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan who benefits.
