(7 Jan 1954) At Waitangi, near the Treaty House where Maoris ceded sovereignty to Queen Victoria, a Maori chief made the traditional challenge to the Royal visitors. After a weird form of welcome, Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh witnessed a song-and-dance greeting by some two hundred Maori people.
