To celebrate VE Day, we feature Holocaust survivor Elizabeth Wees’ testimony. Elizabeth was born in Czechoslovakia in 1924. She survived the Mukačevo ghetto, Leipzig-Schönefeld concentration camp, Malchow concentration camp, Ravensbrück concentration camp, and multiple death marches.

"The war is over. We were sort of left in a no-man’s land.”

World War II ended in Europe when Germany surrendered on May 8, 1945.

“Victory in Europe Day” (or “VE Day”) is celebrated on May 8 in the United States and United Kingdom.
