In my "Complete Online Bass Method", which is available on my PATREON page I often use signature songs to illustrate certain aspects of bass playing. This song is a good reference to anticipating chord changes.
Usually the chords in a song change on beat "one" of a bar or - if two chords are played per bar - on beats "one" and "three". To create rhythmic tension, however, sometimes the chord change is anticipated. In this way you can create a forward driving feeling of rhythm. This is one of the most common form of syncopation in rock and pop music.
In chapter 10 of my "Complete Online Bass Method" we're investigating these rhythmic elements with several practice tracks and preliminary exercises to this and other songs that make use of this.
