Join us for a webinar on Beyond Satellite Monitoring: Impacts on the Lives of Indigenous Communities in the Peruvian Amazon, Tuesday, November 29 at 10:00 am ET.
Using Global Forest Watch (GFW) data, Indigenous communities in the Peruvian Amazon cut deforestation by half in their territories in one year. In addition to the forest conservation outcomes, communities are changing governance structures to address deforestation caused by members of the community and working with prosecutors to pursue illegal logging. Communities are also addressing social pressure as women emerge as expert technology users, and leveraging the social capital built to protect communities from COVID-19.
During this virtual discussion, Wendy Pineda and Plinio Pizango from the Rainforest Foundation US will share how community monitoring programs have used GFW tools and data to reduce deforestation in the Peruvian Amazon and how this has transformed the lives of the communities.
This event will be held in Spanish with simultaneous translation to English. We’ll be taking questions at the end of the discussion in English and Spanish.
