Nadia Murad met with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.
They discussed combating sexual violence in conflict zones, the missing Yazidi women and children, the need for sustainable solutions for Yazidis in Iraq, and holding ISIS perpetrators accountable.
Because of the genocide they have faced, many Yazidi refugees have fled to the EU’s border. They come seeking asylum and safety after facing genocide in Iraq and living with limited resources in IDP camps. IDP camps are neither sustainable nor dignified. Nadia and Nadia’s Initiative appreciate the efforts of world leaders like President Michel who commit to peace and reconciliation and support and empower survivors of genocide and sexual violence.
“It was an honor to meet @charlesmichel and learn about his concern for the plight of the Yazidi community. I look forward to joint initiatives aimed at supporting justice for Yazidi survivors, as well as addressing the migratory situation at the EU’s borders,” said Nadia Murad.
